Our beautiful Lord knew all about marriage.
Marriage is a holy institution from God. It can sometimes be hard. But when it works with the grace of God, it’s wonderful.
Marriage is important because it creates families.
And families are the fundamental unit of society. In the same way a Biology professor can tell you that the cell is the fundamental unit of life.
As such, you must know that the enemy will try to do anything to destroy it, weaken it, break it, undermine it, and/or obliterate it with many devices and tricks.
In this American society that seems to respect less and less the sanctity of marriage everyday something happens:
Those devices and tricks from the enemy sometimes get the environment they need to thrive.
God KNOWS there can be trouble in marriage. He is omnipotent and knows every single need and thing that could arise in a relationship. How beautiful.
(Hint: The best Bible verse ever to pray for your marriage is saved for last! So I encourage you to read till the end) 🙂
I will be giving you 22 Bible verses you must use to pray over your marriage, and why you must urgently be using this to pray for your marriage.
He knew marriage is delicate. Because of that, first and foremost, we will begin this list with this Bible verse:
1. 1 Corinthians 7:28: Pray For Divine Help
This post starts with this Bible verse that perfectly depicts its mission:
To encourage you to pray for divine help for your marriage.
Because if the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 7:28 believed you need it, then trust me, you NEED it.
1 Corinthians 7:28: “But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this”.
Blessed be our Lord for giving us his divine help for marriage.
2. 1 Kings 11:4: Pray For Your Spouse’s Faithfulness To Our Lord
You can become the best spouse in the world if you know the most important thing: God comes first.
4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
Never let your spouse drive you apart from God. Or even better, help obliterate any idols that can grow in your spouse’s life.
This can be TV, skipping church on Sundays, gambling or anything like that.
3. Matthew 19:3-6: Pray For A Unified Marriage
3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” 4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
4. Matthew 19:7-8: Pray For A Marriage Without Temptation
You must pray for this, and this is important not because divorce is bad, but because unless the cause for divorce is fornication, then it is not valid before God.
Once you marry someone, there is no going back. Before the eyes of God you are ONE person and no longer two people for the rest of your life.
7 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” 8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
5. Matthew 19:10: Pray To Have A Strong Marriage
The disciples in this Bible verse were speaking about the whole marriage situation.
This Bible verse shows us the disciples knew just how delicate a marriage can be. Like the petal from a rose.
10 The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
It’s important to protect it.
6. 1 Corinthians 13:4 : Pray For A Marriage With Perfect Love
Love can overcome any trouble. It is not about not having trouble and being totally perfect, but being able to overcome all trouble as if nothing’s happened.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
7. Genesis 2:22-24: Pray For Being The Right Support For Each Other
Genesis 2:22-24 shows that you must support your husband or your wife. Marriage is a lot about support.
And it’s also about unity. The Hebrew expression “one flesh” means that they are like one person, instead of two.
22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Our beautiful Lord wants spouses to be the perfect support for each other. And to have unity as well.
8. Proverbs 12:4: Pray for not failing your husband
Pray for becoming a woman of noble character, and a graceful spouse.
Proverbs 12:4: “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown,
but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones”.
9. Proverbs 19:14: Pray that the Lord provides you a good spouse
Proverbs 19:14: “Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is from the Lord”.
If you aren’t married and want to marry someone. A prudent wife can only come from the Lord. Glory to our beautiful Lord.
10. Ephesians 5:22-24: Pray For Submission
Ephesians 5:22-24: “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything”.
11. 1 Corinthians 7:39: Keep Praying For Submission
39 A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives.
12. 1 Corinthians 7:5: Pray For Self Control
5 Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
In this Bible verse, the Apostle Paul is emphasizing the importance of the marriage bed! That’s because the Apostle is specific in saying a husband should fulfill her wife’s sexual needs and a wife her husband’s!
Our Lord used Paul to discuss sexual relations because it’s an extremely important component of the marriage relationship. It cannot be overlooked. Glory to our Lord for his all-knowing wisdom.
13. Colossians 3:18: Pray For Submission Again
18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
14. Hebrews 13:4: Pray That Neither Of You Cheats
Hebrews 13:4: “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral”.
God loves us SO much He EXPLICITLY gives us permission to divorce our spouses if that person cheats. That is because God knows infidelity can destroy someone from the inside out, their self-esteem and everything. So He definitely does not want anybody to put up with cheating. And it’s confirmed by Scripture.
How amazing is our God. Praise Him for this!
15. Ephesians 4:2: Pray For Patience
Ephesians 4:2: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace”.
16. 1 Peter 3:1-2: Pray That You Win Your Unbeliever Husband For Christ
If you have an unbeliever husband, the Apostle Peter gives a special and unique command in this Bible verse for YOU.
1 Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.
17. 1 Peter 3:3-4: Pray For Becoming a Wife Of Gentle And Quiet spirit
3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
18. 1 Corinthians 11:3: Pray For Your Husband’s Role
“But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God”.
19. Ephesians 5:33: Pray For Mutual Respect
33 “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband”.
20. 1 Corinthians 7:2-3: Pray For Fulfilling Each Others’ Needs Fully and Beautifully
Just like Christ fulfills the needs of its church, each husband and each wife must fulfill the needs of each other and yes, that includes ALL sexual needs.
1 Corinthians 7:2-3: But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. 3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
21. Luke 1:34-38: Pray For A Christ-Centered Marriage
As always with our Lord, the best is served for last. The most beautiful and important Bible verse to pray for your marriage and absolutely ANY marriage in the world.
I’m afraid I’m going to tell you something you may or may not have heard before. In your marriage, you are first married to the Lord.
Meaning, the Lord is your first priority. And not your husband. What does that mean exactly?
The most perfect, beautiful and special example of this is the virgin Mary, the blessed mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
She was a young, innocent, humble wife and woman, who very recently married Joseph and probably did not know much about marriage.
But there is something she DID definitely know very well.
Luke 1:34-38 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”
35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”
38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
What she knew is that you have to do God’s will absolutely always.
Even if that meant something that Joseph, her husband, wouldn’t understand. Because Joseph at the beginning did not understand how she became pregnant by divine birth.
An angel had to explain it to him.
Mary knew what the most beautiful and special mission of any wife and woman in this world is. To please the Lord.
She perfectly understood this. And so she did when she said: “Behold the maidservant of the Lord”, and “Let it be to me according to your word”.
When you achieve this, my dear Christian, you’ re ready for the most amazing marriage + finally ready for the most amazing marriage Bible verse to become fulfilled in your life:
22. Ecclesiastes 4:12: A Christ-Centered Marriage: You, Your Spouse And Christ
Ecclesiastes 4:12: “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken”.
Our Lord’s everlasting perfection and wisdom knows everything about marriage, and we need to praise Him BIG time for that. How beautiful is our Lord and God.
