The 5 Marks Of Biblical Wife You’ll Wish You Knew Sooner

Biblical wifehood is described throughout various verses in different books in the Bible. These 5 qualities will ensure wifehood is what God wants it to be.

So, let’s discover what are the 5 marks of the Biblical wife:

  1. A Gentle And Quiet spirit

This is God’s version of “jewelry”.

Biblical wife

1 Peter 3:3: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight”.

To help illustrate this important spiritual principle, I’m going to use a movie.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the movie the devil wears Prada. In that movie, all that counts is designer clothes. And well, they look really good, and I’m sure designer clothes make a lot of people happy, but the “designer clothes” God wants you to wear are a “gentle, and quiet spirit”. That’s God’s version of designer clothing for women, those make you really pretty in His eyes. The only eyes that matter.

2. Healthy, Perfect Submission

Ephesians 5:21-24: “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything”.

You need to learn all about this, and for that you can go to our post on healthy, perfect submission in marriage.

3. Fulfilling Intimacy In Bed

1 Corinthians 7:2-3: “But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband”.

The Bible discusses relations because it is an important component of human life. The Apostle Paul emphasizes that sexual relations are a must in marriage in order to really protect both women and men from the temptation of seeking it anywhere else.

God seeks to protect us from the sin of adultery and fornication.

4. She Leads Her Husband To God

Eve failed to be the ultimate Biblical wife when she failed to be the wife that leads her husband to God.

Biblical wife

Genesis 3:4: “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it”.

Thanks to the redemptive work of our beautiful Lord Jesus Christ, you can be better than Eve today and be the ultimate Biblical woman and wife that does not listen to the serpent and instead leads her husband to God’s ONLY way.

5. She Puts God First

The last but definitely and absolutely not least(In fact, it’s the most important one) quality of a Biblical wife: Her Lord and God. Like the Biblical queen Esther, who did what God wanted her to do.

In the ideal situation with the ideal Biblical wife, He’s her first love, the One she met long before she ever met her husband.

The Lord is her source of joy, her rock through marriage and parenting troubles, the One who gave her life and the One who will always be with her even if her husband becomes ill, or dies(like it happened in the book of Ruth), or cheats, or anything that can happen in life to a human person.

With this 5 elements, I encourage you to be the ultimate Biblical wife, one that exists for the glory of the Lord Jesus.

  1. The closer a wife’s walk with God, the better of a wife she will be. I find humility and showing respect to my husband extremely important as well.

  2. I have a question on submission: Say a married woman gets cancer is the doctor recommends chemo or radiation therapy. Should she submit if her husband tells her forgo medical care in favor or faith healing?

    • That is a personal issue between the woman and God, I mean it lies upon the woman’s faith not the husband’s faith (my faith can’t heal YOU, YOU need to manifest it). In that case, woman should evaluate her faith (is she going to trust God to heal her, or will she go for the chemotherapy). But they build each other’s faith and pray on it together.
